Independence Day 2012

We had a nice Independence Day this year.  This was actually the first year (since having kids) we went someplace to watch big fireworks.  Emma was so excited!  The days leading up to the 4th were filled with questions about fireworks, asking if it was the day yet, etc.  I could not wait to take her, and Molly of course.  I wish I had thought to take a picture of Emma's face when she saw her first BIG firework.  It was priceless.  Big eyes, open mouth--just the wonder and amazement was contagious. Molly kept pointing to them and saying "ooohhhh".  She would look at Tim, me, even the strangers sitting next to us and point at them and then point at the fireworks as if to say, "are you seeing these?!  so cool!!".

We decided to go to Downtown Raleigh for the show.  This is the show that had been at the Fair Grounds for years and years and Raleigh decided to move everything to Downtown.  It was an all day thing with the fireworks starting at 9:30pm.  We got there around 7:30 or so to check everything out and hopefully get a good spot to watch the show.  There were vendors, food, games, street performers.  It was wild and crazy--and very, very crowded.  As far as the fireworks, they were pretty low and hard to see with the tall buildings in the way, but, the kids loved them and that's what matters.  Next year I will be more prepared with a few chairs, a blanket and some water.  You live and you learn, right?

Waiting for the fireworks show to start.  Molly had fun crawling all around in the grass and Emma had fun doing somersaults.

Isn't Raleigh so pretty?

Time for fireworks!  See how our view was sandwiched by the buildings?  Oh well...it was still tons of fun!

You see one firework picture you've seen them all, right?  haha :)
I hope you had a great Independence Day!
